Vernal pools are a vital part of any forest ecosystem and so many people are unaware of their existence. This is the program I had hoped to participate in--the least I can do for these threatened amphibian species is to assist in educating the public of these environments.
When we lived in southeastern Virginia, a fairly wet and marshy place to begin with, we'd often end up with vernal pools in our /front yard/. (Don't even ask what it was like after a hurricane.) I loved it, though - coming home one evening, we could hear the spring peepers OVER the radio AND the a/c. Lovely post, thanks!
